DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
PATIENT 17 is about an unusual patient and about uncovering the truth.
PATIENT 17 is spooky, intriguing and depicts the current social issues of domestic violence and abuse.
I started with the concept and I did research in real life situations to complete the story and get the facts right.
I filled in the rest with imagination, as it was not always possible to get to all details due to the sensitive aspect of the subject.
The challenge for me was to present the clues under different perspectives without giving away the solution. It was tricky indeed, it was like building a Lego castle with all the clues.
Behind the thriller and the investigation, PATIENT 17 is about resilience of human nature : the amazing ability of the human mind to cope with pain and suffering. It was great to learn about multiple personality, to meet people diagnosed with it, like artist Kim Noble who kindly shared her experience with me. It was an eye opening lesson about life and love. It was incredibly touching and inspiring.
The making of PATIENT 17 has been a mad adventure for me. It has tested my patience and sanity and forced me to find creative solutions to fit a tiny micro-budget. I have been doing a lot of begging and borrowing. Multitasking and training on new softwares were key to finishing and polishing the film to a good standard.
Most importantly, I am extremely grateful to have found amazingly talented and kind people to work with me on the film.
I am also proud of our multicultural team, a team made of more than 20 different nationalities and from all religious backgrounds. This gives the film a unique artistic value.
Of course, there were about a million sleepless nights and a lot of bumpy rides but the message I am conveying is worth the fight and the amazing people I have met are making up for all the bad days.
Thank you.
